Great events require great logistic solutions. Initiatives such as Commonwealth Games would not be possible if not for skilled and experienced specialists, who cautiously plan every phase of preparations. For this year’s edition of the event, the honorable role of Official Event Logistics Provider was given to Kuehne+Nagel.
Commonwealth Games: the celebration of freedom and equality
The history of the Commonwealth Games is a long and inspiring one. It was first held in 1930, and since then (with the exception of 1942 and 1946) it happens every four years, gathering people from former territories of the British Empire to celebrate freedom and equality. It is the first international multi-sport event that is fully inclusive, allowing the participation of athletes with disabilities as full members of national teams.
Here is a mission of the 2022 Commonwealth Games:
This year’s edition of the event is going to take place in Birmingham, a major city in England’s West Midlands region. 72 nations are invited to take part in this one of a kind occasion. There are 5,054 athletes expected to participate in 20 sports, split up into 283 smaller events. The organization of such a big initiative is built out of thousands of logistic decisions that need to be coordinated perfectly, so that everything falls into place on time.
Kuehne+Nagel: the impact of sustainable solutions
The Official Event Logistics Provider for Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games was chosen through a competitive tender process, and the winning company, Kuehne+Nagel, is going to take care of transportation, receipt and forwarding before, during and after the event.
Kuehne+Nagel’s history dates back to the year 1890, when August Kuehne and Friedrich Nagel founded a company that was dedicated to freight. It happened over a century ago, and since then the company has grown and developed into a globally famous logistics specialist, operating in 106 countries, with nearly 1,300 offices worldwide, helping around 400,000 customers. OpenBoxes: the power of open source
It is worth noting that one of Kuehne+Nagel’s partners is an open-source supply chain management software called OpenBoxes. This small program is capable of doing great things and will be actively participating in logistic processes of Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
This year SolDevelo Foundation has become an official partner of OpenBoxes, supporting its marketing operations. If you are interested to learn more about this open source, we encourage you to read our article, where we explain its functionalities and the services that it offers.
