Atlassian Cloud Migration: Overall Information

Cloud solutions are becoming more and more popular. For many users it is now the most preferred choice. Its accessibility and flexibility in many cases overshadow server options. Multiple cloud benefits make this solution the most optimal one for the major part of the users.

The market is shifting and even big companies are making decisions based on these changes. One of these companies is Atlassian – a globally acclaimed project management software provider. They’ve decided to migrate all of their services to the Cloud and Data Center. The deadline is February 15, 2024 PT. It might seem like a distant future, but the preparations have started as far back as February 2, 2021. The reason for this is the time that it takes for all the clients to migrate their data. To make sure everything goes smoothly and every user is aware of the change that is about to happen, Atlassian provided the timeline:

Atlassian Cloud Migration

According to Atlassian’s assessment, in some cases the whole migration process can take even more than 9 months. That’s why it is so important to start as soon as possible and have a lot of time for a well-planned migration.

Here is the full list of products that won’t be supported  after February 15, 2024:

  • Jira Software Server
  • Jira Core Server
  • Jira Service Management Server
  • Confluence Server
  • Bitbucket Server
  • Crowd Server
  • Bamboo Server
  • Atlassian-built Server apps

If you’re using any of these products, it would be best to start the process of migration as soon as possible.

Cloud Migration Discounts

To provide clients with further support, Atlassian offers a variety of discount programs for migrating customers:

Standard cloud trial period lasts only 7 days. To give migrating customers a chance to test and get to know cloud features better, Atlassian offers them an extended period of trial. It can last the duration of your Server maintenance or Data Center subscription.

  • Loyalty discounts

Qualified server customers are offered a discount when they migrate that can be locked in for up to 24 months. Details: Cloud loyalty discounts, Data Center loyalty discounts.

One of the problems encountered by migrating customers is double payment. The period of migration can last up to 9 months. During that time, the client must pay for both, server product and cloud product. To eliminate this issue, Atlassian offers qualified customers a credit equal to the pro-rated value of unused server or Data Center maintenance contracts.

Qualifying customers can have their server maintenance or Data Center subscription extended for up to 1 year at a 100% discount. It enables them to run self-managed and Cloud products at the same time.
